Welcome to the Awesome Open Science Handbook

A Living Resource Built By and For Our Community

Hello, and thank you for being here! Whether you’re a seasoned researcher, an early-career scientist, a librarian, a research administrator, or simply someone passionate about making science more open and reproducible, this handbook is for you.

What This Is

This is a collective knowledge repository—a growing, evolving resource created by members of the open science community to document, share, and refine how instition encourage and facilitate the practices that make research more transparent, accessible, and impactful. It’s not a top-down mandate. It’s a conversation.

Why It Matters

Open science isn’t just about publishing open access papers. It’s about:

  • Making research processes visible and reproducible
  • Reducing barriers to knowledge
  • Building trust through transparency
  • Creating space for diverse voices and perspectives
  • Learning from each other’s successes and challenges

How You Can Help

You don’t need permission to contribute. Whether you want to:

  • Share a structured resource that’s worked well for your team
  • Refine existing guidance based on your experience
  • Fill in a guideline for your institution
  • Flag what’s missing or unclear
  • Ask questions and start discussions
